RV Computer Science, Robotics, Science, ELD Week 12/2 - 6/2024

Hello Everyone!

Welcome back.  I hope your week off was restful and enjoyable.  I had a great time with my family.

We have 3 busy weeks before we go on Winter Break for 2 weeks.  Do your best to stay focused while in class.  There will be lots of material to cover and some practice work to complete.

As we get closer to our break, do you want to have a Winter Party?  Secret Santa?   Let me know what you are thinking or have an idea.

Monday Morning Routine

Welcome back!

We have a couple of things to prepare for:

Battle of the Robots Competition -

  1. Pick a team - Must be available on specific dates, good grades, problems solving skills, highly motivated
  2. Pick a robot

I'm thrilled to invite you to participate in an extraordinary event: the Rio Battle of Robots tournament. The tournament takes place on March 29 as part of the Rio Tech Showcase, which runs alongside the Young Author's Faire and Bloomin Art Show at Rio Vista. You have been specifically selected to send a team of 2-4 students - our brightest young inventors - who will represent your school in this innovative and exciting competition.

The Challenge:
Each student team selects and receives one of the ten Palm Beach robot kits as their starting point. Your team will also receive shirts and other materials needed for the tournament. From there, it’s all about building, customizing, and training the robot gladiator to enter the arena. It's a thrilling opportunity to let their creativity shine, and apply their STEAM skills.

What's Next?
To get involved, please confirm your interest by Monday, 12/2. We'll follow up with detailed instructions, including how to get the kits, support resources, and key tasks to be completed leading up to the event. Brian and I are here to help every step of the way, ensuring you and your students have what you need for an incredible experience.

Please note that space is limited, so we encourage you to reply soon to secure your place on this thrilling adventure.

Feel free to reach out with any questions.

We can't wait to see the creativity, enthusiasm, and ingenuity your students will bring to the Battle of Robots!

Sphero Robotics challenges
Bolt
RVR

Tuesday Morning Routine

Continue working with the Bolt programming.  When you finish the Bolt Text Based programming, you will start working with the RVR.  We have 11 lessons to get you used to the RVR platform.

Now that we know how to code the Bolt and will be learning the RVR, what can we do with them to make them usable?

Wednesday Morning Routine

Continue working with the Bolt programming.  When you finish the Bolt Text Based programming, you will start working with the RVR.

Thursday Morning Routine

Continue working with the Bolt programming.  When you finish the Bolt Text Based programming, you will start working with the RVR.

Friday Morning Routine

This form will collect 2 pieces of information.
1.  You can nominate another Robotics Engineer from our Period 2 class to represent our school
2. You can nominate yourself to represent our school

We are looking for engineers that can work together as a team, find excitement in problem solving, and be responsible to their team and attend most of the work sessions.  You do not have to be great at coding, you just need a willingness to help the team.   Most of the work will be done in class but there will be some afterschool sessions in February or March.  We'll figure that out as we get closer to the event.
