Minecrafters beware

Changes are coming to minecraft now that Microsoft has purchased it.  It has been written in Java script.  Now it's written in c++.  They also have new ideas including this: Tate Worlds

Good morning folks.  I hope you all make it a great Friday!   I found out today that Scratch is used by freshman at Harvard University, Stanford, and MIT Universities to teach beginning coding.  Some of those games you see are made by 20 year old adults who are learning to code.  Rio Vista in there coding with the big guys and girls!

Scratch Game Syllabus and Lesson Plan

Howdy People,

Here is your agenda for Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, & Friday

Make it a great week and have some challenging fun creating your SWEET game. It will be challenging but you WILL make it happen.

Your guest teacher is Mrs. KIRCHNER.  Please show her how smart, respectful, and wonderful I know you all are.

Tuesday & Wednesday:
  1. Touch typing for 10 minutes - Typing Pal - Take a test on Wednesday
  2. Build a Game in Scratch (coding to the max!)
    1. Research - Find some games that you would like to play. It can be different than the norm!
    2. Look at the code needed to make a game like that. (Don't get in a panic, you'll get it as you start building.
    3. Start writing down some ideas for your game in a notebook or online in Google Docs
    4. Create a post on your blog explaining what you are hoping you can create
    5. Begin building your game

Thursday & Friday

  1. Touch typing for 10 minutes - Typing Pal - Friday is Keybording Game Day (15 min.)
  2. Build a Game in Scratch (coding to the max!)
    1. Build a multiplayer, multilevel, video game in Scratch.  
    2. Keep a short journal of what you are doing. Successes and failure. It will help when you write your reflections and possibly while you are building your game.

Scratch Game Syllabus (important info about project)

  • First due date in 2 weeks 3/23-25/16 - Needs - game idea, how to level up, movement, characters
  • Second due date 4/12/16 - Needs - backgrounds, character, movement and levels all working
  • Project Due 4/15/16 - Needs - game completed and working with few bugs/glitches
  • 5 pts extra credit - Must be capable of two player play.  
  • Must have more than 3 levels
  • Must have a clear way of knowing how to reach the next level - score or goal
  • Must use Broadcast command
  • No REMIXING someone else's game for class project.  You can remix other peoples game to practice making your own.

2nd year students have a choice.
  1. Build a game (or two depending on difficulty) in Java Script from code.org - Look for the section called -   Partner tutorials that teach JavaScript
  2. Build a 5 or more level, multi player game in Scratch
    1. include counter, moving characters, broadcast and some other details I have not thought of to make it more exciting!

Year 2 Game Syllabus (important info about project)

Something to think about. If you have a project you are working on for another class like social studies or science and can create a game that would work for both classes, talk to me about it and maybe we can make some arrangements between the two classes.

There are many resources on YouTube and other sites as well.  Be creative, have fun, and FOCUS!
