RV Computer Science Week 1/24 - 28/2022

 Hello Everyone,

Welcome to Trimester 2 Conference Week.

We will be on a minimum day schedule starting on Tuesday through Thursday.  Parent conferences will be virtual and usually held between 1:30 & 4pm.

Friday's Project (All Classes):

Hi All,

As I explained on Thursday, your assignment for today will be to post a What's Up post showing 3 different comments on 3 different people's posts.  Here are the step by step plans to completing this project:

  1. Watch the first video below: How to Leave a Comment on a Blog
  2. Think about how to leave a good blog comment.
  3. Watch the next video: Make a Connection: Blog Comments
  4. Reflect on how to leave a GOOD comment.
  5. Now go to your class Padlet and find 3 different people's blogs to leave a comment on.
  6. Person #1 - find a post that you like and leave a GOOD comment
  7. Person #2 - find a post that you like and leave a GOOD comment
  8. Person #3 - find a post that you like and leave a GOOD comment
  9. NOW - take a screenshot of your comments and paste them into your own What's Up post.  Write a brief description of this project.

Your What's Up post should have 3 posted comments that follow our Good comments guidelines as discussed in class and on the videos.

If you finish early, make an interesting stop motion GIF using Brush Ninja.  Post it on your blog so we can check it out!

You can also watch the Space related videos at the end of this week's blog post.

Make it a great day, it is up to YOU.

My Blog - Bringing Out Your Voice Project

Creating a Blog You Can Be Proud Of!

Up until this point in the year, you have been using your blog only as a digital portfolio, a collection of your work.  Now, we are going to transition your blog into a place where you can share a topic that you enjoy & are passionate about.

How to Write a Blog That Is About My Passions
  1. generate a list of possible topics that you feel you want to write about and share your knowledge.  (What's Up Post #10)
  2. Narrow down your list and choose your first topic
  3. Read this blog to find out more about the format of a blog article
  4. Start writing your first post
  5. 1 blog post will be due each Friday.  Worth 30 pts

How Will Your Blog Be Graded?

Your blog will only be graded as complete or incomplete.

Complete = 30pts
Incomplete = 0 pts

The post will need to include the following items to be considered complete:
  1. Appropriate headings separating different parts of your paragraph
  2. A clear theme
  3. Appropriate information & length to communicate knowledge of the topic. (one or two sentences will not be long enough to communicate knowledge.  Most posts should be at least 2 paragraphs long)
  4. Appropriate images to support the topic - must include the source!
  5. Spell check must be used for no spelling errors.

Commenting on a Blog Guide (DC)

It's time for you to check out and comment on other people's blog.  It helps to have a guideline so your comment can stand out and add to the discussion.

Here are some ideas to keep in mind:

The 4 Elements of a Good Blog Comment (Plus: Lots of Examples)

  1. The Friendly Greeting
  2. The Sincere Compliment
  3. The Added Value
  4. The Parting Promise
#1 Friendly Greeting:
If you’re hoping to catch the attention of bloggers and strike up a relationship, a healthy dose of proper etiquette can go a long way.
So say hello to them.
Greet them.
Refer to them by name.

#2 Sincere Compliment:
In short, pay them a compliment. Any compliment. Just make sure it’s a sincere compliment.

Tell them how much you enjoyed their post…

Make their day…

#3 The Added Value:
Your goal in every comment should be to add value. If your comment doesn’t add value, it’s wasting everyone’s time.  This could include feedback, an extension of their idea

#1: SHARE PERSONAL INSIGHTS OR ANECDOTES

#2: ASK THOUGHTFUL QUESTIONS

#3: CONTRIBUTE TO THE DISCUSSION

#4 The Parting Promise
I love it when commenters tell me they’ve shared or will share my work. The ideal comment would come from someone who both tells me they’re going to share, and then remembers to tag me when they do.Brittany Bullen
