RV Computer Science Week 12/12 - 16/2022

  Happy Holidays Everyone!

This is the last school week of 2022!  What a year.  Let's have some fun and get some work wrapped up before we leave on break.

A couple of reminders:

  1. Student computer return is by Wednesday.  All your teachers know to not give any tech homework after Wednesday.  You will be taking your device to class every day but leaving it in your homeroom at night.
  2. Spirit Week!

Period 2 - Computer Science

Milestone 1 Due by Thursday - At this point, you should have a working game with almost no art.  

  • Movement and sprite interaction should be working without any glitches.
  • A working start and end page - does not have to be finished, just working
  • A working title for your game.  This can be updated later
  • Updated notes that will help any one of your team who wants to work on this project over the break

Period 3 - Robotics

We are wrapping up the Invention Squad Unit.  Take Monday to finish up each unit & Tuesday to catch up on your reflections on your website.  On Tuesday we will start the Design for Someone task.  Help your partner out so they finish too.

 Good day all,

I'm out again today.  I'm on the Ace High School Field Trip.  Please go to your class's instructions & follow them.  Have a great day.

Remember, if you are off task and get your name on the guest teacher notes, you will get a lunch detention.

  1. Watch this video after your morning routine


  2. Build a start page in Scratch (tutorial on video). Click to see my Scratch game guide

  3. One of your team can draw on paper what you think your game will look like (save your drawing for Thursday)

  4. Start coding your game by writing down in your doc what the start of the game will look like, what the game will look like, what reaching the goal will look like, & what switching to either an end-of-game or next-level will look like.

  5. Find resources (video tutorials that can help)

  2. Students who are not working with their groups should be reminded ONCE to be with their group

  3. If they fail to work with their group or continue to socialize, please write their name on your notes.  I will deal with them when I return.


Students can help each other but stay focused on their work


The teacher will dismiss students at the end of the period when they have picked up their workstations



Friday - Game development - Continue with your game development.  Make sure you have good notes for each member of your group.  It's easy to forget what you were doing or need to do over the weekend.

Next week, we will be collecting all laptops that have been going home.  We do this for Winter & Spring break.  those of you who take your laptop home will need to leave them at school starting on Wednesday.

Period 3

Monday - Period 3  Robotics -  after the morning routine

P3 - Student Helpers - Nathan K, Josiah, & Chris P

Students will be working on a robot design Project Hopper Race. Some teams are finishing or starting this project. We'll change teams on Tuesday. Please watch the video below before you get started building.



  1. They are building the robot

  2. Testing the existing code

  3. Changing the code and the design of the legs to make it work differently. Try different leg designs to see what happens. Also, try different variables in your code. Only make one change at a time.

  4. Writing a reflection about the project in their Digital Portfolio - See Mr. Garcia's Portfolio for details on how to write a reflection for this class

  5. Move on to the next project,

Projects for the week are pictured below.  We'll try to do one a day followed by a quick reflection in your Digital Portfolio.  This week's project can be found on the Spike App Home under Unit Plans - Invention Squad.

RV Computer Science, Robotics, & ELD Week 11/28 - 12/2/2022

 Welcome back everyone!

We have 3 weeks before break.  Well be working on different projects but all will be done before we leave for break.  

Period 2 Game Dev Teams will develop their game concept and present their initial idea to the class at the end of the week.  You will also update your digital portfolio

Period 3 will start on their new robot project and update their digital portfolio.

Period 5 will start work in groups.

Periods 6 & 7 will learn how to design in a 3D CAD program & start to build their first design project.

Tuesday -   Game Development Syllabus - Focus your ideas.  Get on the Game Dev Syllabus:

Stage - Planning

  1. Look over the Game Dev Syllabus -
  2. Get your team's GameDevDoc & start to talk about the ideas.  Record your ideas on the doc & follow the directions on the doc
  3. Once you have your ideas done, fill out this doc with your information
  4. Move onto the next stage - PreProduction -

Students are developing their video game ideas.  They will be doing the following.

  1. Completing the Game Development Group Journals & posting them on our Padlet

  4. Use google to look up resources(tutorials that can help get you started).  You can also use the resources we have already collected on the Game Dev Syllabus

Friday -   Complete planning stage & turn in all documents & surveys.  Prepare for the production stage where you will start developing your game.

Building a Video Game

Students will be working on the same project.  A video will be posted on the class blog for them to explain the project.

  1. ELD students will start by copying the question from the blog, pasting it onto their Google Docs, and answering the question daily.

  2. Students will write and illustrate a story of a time in their life when they were happy.  They need to write a part of the story in each box & illustrate the writing as best as they can.
