RV Computer Science, Robotics, Science, & ELD Week 3/3 - 7/2025

 Hello Everyone!

Instructions for your classes while I am out are highlighted in magenta.  Please look for these instructions

Welcome to Trimester 3!

Welcome to the new Computer Science class!  We are going to have some fun!

Robotics will be getting into their Robotics Challenge all trimester long ending in some fun events.

Science will be learning about cells, the environments, and how it all comes together to make this amazing area we live in along the beautiful Channel Islands.

ELD will start off with ELPAC testing.  Then, we are making our recipe books and eating some interesting snacks.

As we start off the last trimester of the year, keeping up with your work will matter.  The end of the year activities will be fun if you have your work caught up.  Don't get left behind because you did not take care of your business.

As you work on these challenges, keep posting your progress in your portfolio.  It is a good idea that one of your team keeps a portfolio open to write notes about your:

  • progress
  • any questions
  • any needs
  • any problems
  • notes for the following day
Think of it as a journal where you write your thoughts.  That is how I will be grading your journal.

Journal Grading Rubric - Your Student Portfolio

4 - A
Images - Lots of photos showing the progress of the projects at different stages
Writing - Very detailed descriptions of what is in the images.  Written like notes to highlight what is working and not working.  Describes problems and the solutions that worked and did not work.  It reads like care was taken to record the engineering development process.  Above and beyond what is expected.

Here are your instructions while I am out today.  You will be keyboarding and taking your first keyboarding test.  Follow the direction below and listen to your guest teacher.  Behave respectfully and kind if you want to survive in this class.  If I get a note about your negative behavior, you get a call home and a referral.  Make choices that help you.  Below are the instructions. -
Keyboarding - Why learn Keyboarding

Good keyboarding skills will help you with any work you do on a computer.  This will save you time and frustrations.  Get good at Touch Typing (not looking at the keyboard).

The video below shows you what Touch Typing looks like.
  • straight posture
  • eyes on the screen
  • fingers on the homerow
  • feet flat or on a small step up
  • relax
Sean Wrona is one of the fastest keyboardist in the world!  He has been recorded at speeds of over 225 words per minute!

To get the keyboard memorized, you need to start slow and build your skills first.  Speed will come later after you have memorized the keyboard.  START SLOW!!!!

After watching the video, discuss what you saw that helped them type so fast

  1. Start with 13 minutes of keyboarding in your new keyboarding class in typing.com.  Have them remember to use “fingers on the homerow” to start learning Touch Type.  Run the timer set to 13 minutes
  2. Take 2 - one minute tests in typing.com.  This is located in the TEST option at the top of typing.com.
  3. Review your results and know that this is where you are starting. Where you end up will be determined by how much effort and perseverance you put into your learning.
  4. Go to the class blog to Student Portfolios - P3 STEM projects and play the games students have made for the remainder of the period.
  5. We will start working with code tomorrow.
