    1. Class discussion - We all have made changes to help get rid of COVID.  What did you do and still do to help keep COVID away?

    2. We’ll talk more about STEM careers & how they helped our world heal.

  3. Project ID - This is your project.  Follow the directions below to get started.

    1. Read the syllabus

Periods 6 & 7 -  Welcome to Computer Science

Hi all,

I’m sorry I’m not here for your first day.  Please pay attention to Mr. Townsley.  You will be joining some of the sites you will be using every week in this class.

Here are a couple of rules you need to know about the C205 Tech Lab

  1. Bathroom Breaks - Sign out on clipboard, take a pass & return the pass

  2. Questions in class - Raise your hand (depending on the question, ask 3 before you ask me(the teacher)).

  3. Dismissal - When it is time to go, start cleaning up 2 minutes before the bell rings & WAIT AT YOUR WORKSTATION UNTIL THE TEACHER LETS YOU GO BY ROWS.

  4. What computer do I use - For today, use your Chromebook ONLY!

  5. More to come

Basic Plan all Periods - Special plans this week

  2. Students start on your daily routine for this week

    1. 10 min - Daily Touch typing on Typing.com (13 min on the clock) -  You all will need to go to typing.com and create an account.  Click on the link below to get started.  Use your Rio Schools email and password to create an account.   START WORKING ON THE BEGINNERS LESSONS

    2. Period 6 click here to start your typing account

  1. Period 7 click here to start your typing account

  1. 3 min - Check your email - Delete old email & read important email

  2. Go to the Computer Science Class Blog.

  3. Click on this link to go to Scratch & play some games.

    1. What kind of games do you like?

  4. See you tomorrow!

NOISE Level

  • Noise level is between a 2 & 3 but should NEVER get so loud we disturb other classes

  • Walking around is for help only, no social maneuvering around the classroom:

  • Lost movement privileges, stay in your seat - ALL STUDENTS

Consequences for repeated (2) disruptions:

  1. Students may be moved away from others & continue working if the behavior improves

  2. Students may be moved to a 6th-grade class or to the office with a blue behavior referral - students will lose promotion points and will not be available to help their teams.

  3. Just do your work:)

Guest teacher - Students may be collaborating which is encouraged.  Or, they may be just visiting so you will need to move around the classroom and listen into conversations.  THIS IS CRUCIAL FOR GOOD CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT!!!!!

Done with your Project - Students can do these activities when completed with a project and done posting on their blog.  Early finishers can go on  DIY ACTIVITIES

Blogger

Modify your blogs themes, colors, and layout

Gamestarmechanic

Great game design website.  Sign in, use the year 2004 for registering, select “Get Started” until you get to the “Quest” and click on that.

Tinkercad

Create a new project or work on an old one

Finish Preparing 3D printed ID

Use tools carefully and clean up the work table

Code.org

Work on another new task or finish one from last year

Scratch

Go play some games on Scratch!  When you find a game you like, look at the code used to create it

Typing.com

Students can get some more keyboarding practice.

DIY Projects

Start thinking about another project you want to do for yourself!

1 min -  Logging out of class devices & shutting down - I make all students wait at their workstations until all headphones, tables, and chairs are neatly arranged.  I excuse one row at a time.   Do not excuse students until workspaces are clean.

P7 needs to put chairs up and shut down the TV on FRIDAY!

Guest Teacher Reminders:

  • Write good, detailed, and readable reflections.

  • Email me if you have any questions.

I wish you all a good day.  Help each other & respect each other.

See you tomorrow,

Mr. Garcia

P.S. you can email me any questions.  It may take me a while to respond.

Computer Science - Week 10/11 - 15/2021

 Hi you wonderful people!

I will be out of the classroom until Friday.  Thank you for coming to the class blog to check for the latest information.  Also, thank you for doing your best in class while I'm away.  Your Guest Teacher will be Mrs. Peraza.

Congratulations to all those who are improving their keyboarding skills! More students are reaching their keyboarding goals and using the home row.  Next up is not looking at the keyboard!!!  Remember to focus on accuracy and NOT speed.  Teach your fingers how to reach the keys from the home row.  Once you know where the keys are, speed will come.

Here is the plan for the week:

Monday - Stacking Cups with Code

Tuesday - Project STEM

  1. Normal morning routine - keyboarding for 13 minutes & check mail (your time) for 3 minutes.
  2. Log in and navigate to Unit 0, Lesson 0.3, & watch the video in sections A & B.
  3. After watching section B, let your teacher know you are done by getting into presentation seating.

What's Up - 9/24/2021

 Hi All,

This week you will start a weekly assignment named "What's Up"

Each Friday, you will write about something that you want to write about.  It can be about how you feel today, what you are doing this weekend, a movie-tv show-anime-song-music video you like, how much your feet hurt, how much you love your bed, or anything you want to write about.

What's required?

  • a paragraph of written text (you can add a recording if you like)
  • an image, video, or drawing
  • a title - What's Up - current date
  • Graded weekly - 200 point value

A few things to remember:

  • no personal information
  • if you write about people, keep names out of your writing.
  • keep your content appropriate for an academic blog
Here is an example:
____________________________________________________________________________________

Hi all,

This week, I listened to a great webinar and heard a NASA astronaut talk about being in space.  John Herrington is the first Native American to travel to space.  He performed a spacewalk to install solar panels on the International Space Station!  Mr. Herrington flew on the space shuttle Endeavor.  That's cool because the space shuttle Endeavor is not at the California Science Center in Los Angeles.   He also took part in a new IMAX movie that I want to see.  I'll include the links below.  Have a great weekend!

Captian Herrington working on ISS solar panels                               USS Endeavor in Los Angeles (click on image)

Check out the trailers for these exciting IMAX movies.  The California Science Center has an IMAX movie theater.
