Keyboarding/Handwriting/Other classwork - 10 min - (13 on the clock)
Hi all, Sorry I'm out today. I have a special, one-day-only, task for you. You will need to take a screenshot and email it to me before class ends. That is how you will get credit.
You can work in pairs if you work on the task.
Keep the noise down, have fun thinking critically about the code, and enjoy a relaxed class.
NO DRONE FLYING TODAY! We will continue with your rescue flight on Thursday.
Task - Your challenge is to save the robot who wants to escape its island.
To do this, you have to choose the code to control its movements. REMEMBER, Order Matters!
Have fun, Make sure to send me a screenshot via EMAIL of your highest level before the bell rings.

I hope you all had a great weekend. Here is some information for Monday. I will be out as I am helping interview our next vice principal for Rio Vista.
This will be our last week of keyboarding. You will have your final keyboarding test on Thursday. Keep practicing this week.
Seating charts will be out on Tuesday for all classes.
Periods 3, 4, & 5 will be working on drones and more starting on Tuesday. Use today's activity to get an idea of the basic coding needed to drive a machine.
Period 6 will be starting to code using this Mars Rover Simulation. We'll start our coding unit on Tuesday
Period 7 will be working on their challenges.
Make it a great day you all! I have some great prizes to give away to all of those who do well on the Mars simulator. Make sure to take a screenshot of your best score.
There will be Rootbeer floats on Friday for all of those who do well and don't get your name on the Guest Teacher's notes regarding behavior issues.

Period 3 - ELD
Monday- Morning Routine
Keyboarding - 10 min - (13 on the clock)
Hi all, your seating chart will be ready on Tuesday. Today, have some fun programming an unmanned rover on Mars. The actions you are doing in this simulation will be very similar to how you will code your drones to fly a task.
First, here is a little background information about what the 2 newest Mars Rovers are doing.
Next, how do the rovers on Mars actually get driving instructions?
Your turn to drive a rover in a Mars simulation. Your goals:
investigate each marked area using code. The simpler the better.
choose which ones to investigate knowing some sites are more valuable than others.
who has the highest score?
Take a screenshot of your high score. You can do this more than once.
Here is a quick "How To" video -
And Finally, the Mars Rover Simulation - Have Fun! You can work as a team so long as you are working on this. Click on the image to get to the simulation.
Tuesday- Morning Routine
Keyboarding - 10 min - (13 on the clock)
Question - Writing practice
Look up the handwritten alphabet - What do you want your script to look like?
Wednesday- Morning Routine
Keyboarding - 10 min - (13 on the clock)
Journal Writing - Cursive practice
Drone Flying
Battery charging & safety
Thursday- Morning Routine
Keyboarding - 10 min - (13 on the clock)
Journal Writing - Cursive practice
Get onto Scratch 3 for Tello. Build your basic code.
We'll be learning some drone operation basics
Operational Laws for Recreational Use
Preflight the drone
Binding the drone
Running the code
Emergencies - what to do?
takes off
won't land
Overheating
Friday- Morning Routine
Keyboarding - 10 min - (13 on the clock)
Journal Writing - Cursive practice
May Keyboarding Test - In typing.com:
Warm up for about 5 minutes
Take 2 - 1 minute tests
Post the screenshot in your portfolio - take a screenshot of the graph & your two tests.
Write down your reflection - What is this, How did I make it, How do I feel about it? This is your final test and reflection for the year.
Has this daily practice helped you keyboard more confidently?
Was it worth your time to practice this skill?

The Code - You will need to build the code to drive around the obstacles. Your course time will be kept. The main goal is to complete the course. The secondary goal is to do it in the least amount of time.
The Course -
Advanced Group - SumoBot Info
Robot Max Size 10cm x 10cm
Sumo Ring is 77cm round black with a white border
