With over 30 participants from Rio Vista & Rio Real, we collected over
100 lbs of trash from Ormond Beach this year! A HUGE thank you to all our student participants, parents who drove participants (several stayed to help!), Mr. Erickson, ASB Leaders, Kaytlin, former students of Vista, Tom & the crew from NRG, Ron and all the Coastal Clean-up volunteers, & my family for getting to the beach early. Lot's of interesting things found on the beach today including batteries, birthday balloons, plastic army soldiers, blankets, baby clothes, cigarette butts, lots of paper, food wrappers, plastic, and glass bottles. A unique find was a GeoCaching bottle last found and recorded in 2011. It's been floating around for 7 years!
Thank you to all the teachers who participated by reminding students of the event & even offering extra credit for participation and a written reflection. Sadly, we missed several participants who either came early or after our group pic:(
The morning passed quickly and we all left with tired but great feelings about doing something that made a small difference to our community and planet. Thanks for all of you out there who help out by picking up your trash & anything else you can. It all helps!
MR. G
P.S. Send me any images you have of the event so I can post them on the blog!
