Computer Science - Week 10/11 - 15/2021

 Hi you wonderful people!

I will be out of the classroom until Friday.  Thank you for coming to the class blog to check for the latest information.  Also, thank you for doing your best in class while I'm away.  Your Guest Teacher will be Mrs. Peraza.

Congratulations to all those who are improving their keyboarding skills! More students are reaching their keyboarding goals and using the home row.  Next up is not looking at the keyboard!!!  Remember to focus on accuracy and NOT speed.  Teach your fingers how to reach the keys from the home row.  Once you know where the keys are, speed will come.

Here is the plan for the week:

Monday - Stacking Cups with Code

Tuesday - Project STEM

  1. Normal morning routine - keyboarding for 13 minutes & check mail (your time) for 3 minutes.
  2. Log in and navigate to Unit 0, Lesson 0.3, & watch the video in sections A & B.
  3. After watching section B, let your teacher know you are done by getting into presentation seating.

    3. Class discussion:

*Stick to one game today, you will have time to play both games on Friday.

    5. Clean up & wait at your stations to be dismissed.

You all are awesome people.  It is my pleasure to know you this year.

Mr. G

Wednesday - Project STEM -
  • Start your day with the normal routine: Keyboarding & check your mail.
  • Start Project STEM: Unit 0, Lesson 0.4

  • Watch Section A & B on your own.  When done, get into presentation seating.
  • Mrs. Peraza will lead a brief discussion about Pair Programing

What's Up - 9/24/2021

 Hi All,

This week you will start a weekly assignment named "What's Up"

Each Friday, you will write about something that you want to write about.  It can be about how you feel today, what you are doing this weekend, a movie-tv show-anime-song-music video you like, how much your feet hurt, how much you love your bed, or anything you want to write about.

What's required?

  • a paragraph of written text (you can add a recording if you like)
  • an image, video, or drawing
  • a title - What's Up - current date
  • Graded weekly - 200 point value

A few things to remember:

  • no personal information
  • if you write about people, keep names out of your writing.
  • keep your content appropriate for an academic blog
Here is an example:
____________________________________________________________________________________

Hi all,

This week, I listened to a great webinar and heard a NASA astronaut talk about being in space.  John Herrington is the first Native American to travel to space.  He performed a spacewalk to install solar panels on the International Space Station!  Mr. Herrington flew on the space shuttle Endeavor.  That's cool because the space shuttle Endeavor is not at the California Science Center in Los Angeles.   He also took part in a new IMAX movie that I want to see.  I'll include the links below.  Have a great weekend!

Check out the trailers for these exciting IMAX movies.  The California Science Center has an IMAX movie theater.

Rio Vista Computer Science Week 4 - 9/13 - 17

 Hi all,

This week we'll get into coding through several challenges.  We'll have some fun and get a chance to be creative while learning how to program a computer!

We'll also get a chance to start designing your blog and posting a couple of items to build your portfolio:

  • Typing tests - take a screenshot that includes both typing test and the line graph

  • My First Post - This was the first post you made after creating your blog.  Include some information about something you like or that is important to you.  Include an image and an explanation.
  •  Share Your Portfolio - You will post your portfolio on a shared Padlet Board.  This will make our experience of finding and sharing our blogs with each other much more enjoyable.  Look up at the upper left corner of this blog to find your class.

What you need to accomplish this week: Getting to know your blog
  • Finish posting all 3 posts for this week
    • My First Post - Post an image that visually shows something about you and what you like
    • September Typing Test - Post a screenshot just like the one above with a description of what this post is.
    • A Cool Video for a Tuesday - Post a favorite video & an explanation about why you posted the video
  • Share your Blog - Share your blog in your classes Padlet.  Find your classes Padlet in the upper left-hand corner of this blog
  • Design your Blog - Work on getting the look you want for your blog

Beach Cleanup - We'll be out at the beach making it look better this Saturday.  Bring your family for some fun on the sand!

Welcome Back CS Students!

Mr. Garcia here looking forward to a week full of exploring computer science!

First, check out what you can see in the skies during the month of September.

Tuesday - We'll be wrapping up creating our email signature.  Remember to send me an email to demonstrate that you have completed the signature.  Have fun with this and use a quote that means something to you.  If you need help, make sure you let me know in class!

Wednesday - Friday - We are going to start looking a what it takes to make a computer work.  Hardware mixed with software.  This week, you'll check out more of the hardware and start to work on some of the software.

Finished Early? - Make sure to create a Scratch account so we can start building code strings to make a computer work for you!  When you "JOIN Scratch", make sure to use your google account information & DO NOT use your real name.  Always use your gamer name.

Looking forward to working & learning with you this week!
