I'll Be Out Tomorrow

Hey All,

I'll be out today.  I'm meeting with CS Teacher from across the county to talk about Coding and what CS classes will be doing in HS.  I hope to come back with great info for you on Wednesday.

Design Your Race Car! or Design a Piece of Art!

Let's get started designing a race car for our 2nd Annual 3D Road Rally.  The Rally will be held in early June.  Prizes & Trophies will be awarded to top 3 finishers in each category.

There are 2 categories:

#1 Race - Cars are built for speed!  Design, print, finish, and test your fastest design.

Max size - 30mm wide x 100mm long x 50 mm height max

Max weight - ?

#2 Show - Show cars are all about looks!  Show your most creative and innovative design.

Max size - 40 mm wide x 150 mm long x 60 mm height max

Max weight - n/a

All cars need to roll!

As always, you, look for ideas but you must create your own design and not remix someone else's design.

Log into tinkercad.com to start building. Get help in Tech Lab C205 at lunchtime, before or after school.

Volunteers will be needed to help build and modify race track, trophies, and displays.  Your help will be appreciated!

Designs are due on the last week of February.  All printed cars will be included in the Art show in January.

The 1st Rio Schools Art Show is rapidly approaching.  Creating art on a 3D printer is a new and powerful way to use this technology to express your inner Van Gogh!  

Requirements: 

• All creations must be your own design.  Research but do not remix someone else's design.
• Sizes can vary.  See me for anything larger than 200 mm x 200 mm x 200 mm.
• Piece can be functional like a designer picture frame, race car, phone stand, phone cover etc...
• Due by end of January

Audicity Beat

I created a beat using Audacity.  I used several instrument files downloaded from SampleSwap.org.  This images shows the mixing window with several of sounds I used to create my beat.  What you see are the sound waves the instrument makes.  There sounds I used and mixed are deep bass, tom, high top hat, and disco guitar.  Learning to cut, move and paste the file where it sounded good was a bit of a challenge.  But I got 2 seconds of a cool beat for me.  I plan on improving this beat with some more instruments.

Here is my beat.  It's called Big Bass Foot.  After clicking on it, you may have to download it or open it with you sound player like Music Player for Google

This project will take us through the week.

2. Choose one project and fill out this form to let me know what you have chosen.
3. Final Project due Thursday.  Post your product on blog and write a brief reflection.  
4. 15 pts. for a complete or near complete project.  10 pts for posting and reflection.
5. Have fun.  You can work in pairs.  If you have an interesting project idea, see me, let's talk.

Tough Line of Code

This line of code made Moana's canoe zig zag past rocks.  It was difficult and took me more than 7 times to get it right.   Even after Romina kept trying to tell me the answer, I did not listen because I wanted to do it myself!  I ROCK!

Signature Quotes that Move Us

Customized Signature in Email:
In this project, students customized their emails with a personal signature.  They included basic information and a quote that has meaning to them.  Some students even created their own quote.  What you see here is a collection of those quotes the students chose.  Each student customized their slide to represent the feeling the quote holds for them.  Enjoy!

CS Classes - End of T1 Posting Guidelines

This is a Google Slideshow describing what tasks you need to finish this class.  It will also describe how to finish building your student blog portfolio.  The slides are set to change every minute and can be paused.

Typing Agent Post (Sample Blog Post For All CS Classes)

Reflection: I used Typing Agent this year almost every day for 10 minutes each morning.  I learned how to touch type so I do not have to look at the keyboard while I am typing.  I did not like doing it but after a while, I got better at using the home row without looking.  My typing speed has gone from 12 wpm to 25 wpm and my accuracy was 75%.  Now my accuracy is 92%!  I know I can get faster so I will keep using this program until I can type fast without looking at the keyboard and have 98% accuracy.

These are all the lessons I completed this trimester.

These are the units I finished.  Look, I mastered O keys!

Here are my test scores and my awards.  25 wpm and 92% accuracy!

SD Box

This SD box was created to solve the problem of lost SD cards in the Tech Lab.  Students use SD cards to save and print their 3D projects.  Often, they are left all over the desk.  Know we all know where to put the SD card!

Great Pumpkin Patch

We went to the Limoneira Pumking Patch this weekend.  Was terrific.  Check it and if you go, do the Corn Maize!

Coding in Tynker

All classes have started learning the basics of code by using Tynker projects.  Lots of mixed reactions, happiness, anger, joy , frustration.  One thing for sure is they are being challenged!
